Support Your RV Lifestyle! An Insider's Guide to Working on the Road

If you plan or are working on the road don't leave home without Support Your RV Lifestyle! An Insider's Guide to Working on the Road.

Are you thinking about living the RV Lifestyle, but know you will need to find work on the road? If so you may be asking:

bulletCan we do it?
bulletWhere will we find jobs?
bulletCan we make enough?

Or maybe you are already enjoying the RV Lifestyle while working on the road, but your jobs have been less than satisfying. Maybe you have:

bulletArrived at a job only to discover the working conditions are not as described.
bulletDiscovered the campground feels your campsite is worth two or three times as much as guests pay for the same site.
bulletArrived on the job to find you would be earning less than you were told.
bulletOr one of any number of other disappointing surprises.

When Jaimie and Bill Hall hit the road in 1992, they knew they would have to work on the road, but the information about working on the road was extremely limited. Jaimie says, “What I was looking for was a ‘how-to’ manual which gave the reader the necessary tools and resources to find jobs that paid well.” Recognizing there were many others who could use such a book Jaimie decided to write one, drawing from many good and a few bad working experiences of their own, combined with stories shared by other workampers. The result is Support Your RV Lifestyle! An Insider's Guide to Working on the Road, the first “how-to” manual for people earning their way in the RV lifestyle.

Support Your RV Lifestyle! has many wonderful anecdotes about working on the road, but that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the information covered. The book is broken into five sections:

Section I: Know yourself

Section II: Nitty gritty of getting work to support your RVing

Section III: Job List and more than 300 moneymaking opportunities

Section IV: RV Lifestyle Considerations

Section V:  Appendixes

In the introduction Hall looks at 14 mistakes working RVers can avoid. If you are already working on the road and have run into any of these circumstances you need this book! If you are just preparing to hit the road, you are in luck, as Hall will coach you through the process of getting jobs on the road without experiencing these mistakes. The introduction also shares how to use Support Your RV Lifestyle! to your best advantage and shares Hall’s own experiences working on the road.

Know Yourself guides you through an evaluation of the skills you have to offer—including those you may never have considered. Before focusing on the job, you will ponder what you want to do with your life. This is key if you want to control your life rather than allow your job to control your life. Finally, you will look at what the full-timing lifestyle costs you, which is your basis for how much you need to earn.

The Nitty gritty of getting work to support your RVing shares strategies for finding jobs that tie in with what you want to do with your life. You will quickly learn there are many ways to find these jobs. Hall looks at how equipment, like computers and phones, can help you get a job. She also shares tips on how to get along without this equipment if you don’t have it.

We all hate to do resumes, cover letters and interviews, but with the tips Hall shares, you will breeze right through the process, ranking higher than others who may be competing for the jobs. And when the job offer is made you will know better than to jump at it before considering whether your needs are being met or if you need to negotiate some additional benefits. If negotiations are needed you will know how to do it like a pro. So that you can be successful in your new position, Hall shares some of the challenges you may face and offers some ways to deal with them.

Whether you are an experienced workamper or just beginning to workamp, the third section, Job List and more than 300 moneymaking opportunities, will be invaluable to you. It is broken into nine chapters that will provide you with many job opportunities:

bulletJobs with campsites
bulletTraveling jobs
bulletRV industry jobs
bulletSeasonal federal jobs
bulletJobs in the outdoors
bulletResort and destination jobs
bulletTemporary and special event jobs
bulletWorking for yourself
bulletVolunteering to cutting expenses

These chapters describe many jobs, share other RVers’ anecdotes and tell you how to find these jobs. Even if you don’t need to work you will find some opportunities that will intrigue you. I sure did!

In RV Lifestyle Considerations you will learn about health insurance and unemployment options. If you can hold your expenses down you won’t need to work as long, so Hall shares some tips on managing your expenses.

Whether you are single, traveling with a spouse who doesn’t work, traveling with kids or have disabilities there are jobs for you too. An entire chapter looks at concerns you may have.

In the Appendices you will find information on contacting state tourist agencies, state parks, state revenue offices and state motor vehicle and driver’s licensing offices. You will also find budgeting worksheets and other workampers stories here.

Add to this the extensive Resources section and you have everything you need to find those satisfying and rewarding jobs.

With Support Your RV Lifestyle! you can make your dreams come true!
