Life on Wheels

Learning about becoming a full-time RVer can be challenging. Research takes time. And if you wait to learn about the lifestyle until you get on the road you could make some expensive mistakes in the process. Buying an RV isn't like buying a house. And when your land line and mailbox go away paying the bills and staying in touch with family and friends becomes more difficult. But the full-timing lifestyle for those of us with even a little bit of nomad in us is well worth the challenges.

So, how can a wannabe or new to the road full-timer get up to speed quickly? One way is to attend a Life on Wheels Conference, where many of the lifestyle and equipment experts give classes. Not only can you listen to their presentations, but you can visit with them one on one.

Gaylord Maxwell recognized the complexity of the full-timing lifestyle and the need for educating the serious RVer about the lifestyle and its options. To address this need he founded the Life on Wheels Conference. The conference is based at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. Every summer a week long conference is held in Moscow. There are also extension programs, which run three days. One of these is held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania just before the big RV show. A great combination for those who have not selected their wheel estate yet.

The Life on Wheels Conference in Moscow offers over 100 different how-to, where-to and what-to classes that fall into three categories:

  1. Lifestyle: full-timing, camping options, choosing an RV, packing an RV, RV driving lessons, budgeting, etc.
  2. Technical: understanding and maintaining RV systems, improving gas and diesel engine performance, weight safety, tire safety, etc.
  3. Lifestyle Enhancement: photo classes, RV cooking, health maintenance, places to visit, etc.

Attending a Life on Wheels Conference can be intense and overwhelming, but you are guaranteed to leave with lots of knowledge and some new friends.
