RV Traveling Tales:
Women's Journeys on the Open Road edited by Jaimie Hall and Alice Zyetz
Fifty-two women answer the question: What is it like to be a female nomad
on the open road, leaving family, community, and possessions to head into
the unknown in an RV?
This anthology features the writings of women of varied backgrounds, many
living full-time in their RVs, ranging in age from 14-85. They take a
humorous look at situations unique to the RVing lifestyle: living in a small
box on wheels, maneuvering a 38-foot RV, or surviving bears and other
calamities. On the road and away from the support of family and friends,
they also cope with life's issues—breast cancer, divorce, loss of a child.

Meandering
Down The Highway: A Year on the Road with Fulltime RVers, and
other books by Nick Russell
Nick
and Terry were like most of us who have been pulled into the American
Dream – good jobs with all the toys that come with success. At the end
of one exhausting day, they began to ask serious questions, ending with,
“What fun was it going to be even if we did end up being the richest
people in the graveyard?” This was the dawn of a new lifestyle for Nick
and Terry. Before long, they found themselves on the road “Meandering
Down the Highway.”
At 46, Nick and Terry recognized they would need to
work on the road. Nick had owned small businesses in his career as well as
having been editor and publisher of small town community newspapers. He
decided to put this knowledge to work on the road and just prior to their
departure; Gypsy Journal: The RV Travel Newspaper was
founded.
Gypsy Journal shares Nick and Terry’s
experiences on the road, from the sights they see, experiences they have
and people they meet to industry updates, a calendar of RV events, and
articles on things of importance to RVers like solar energy and RV driving
school.
One of the columns in the Gypsy Journal is Meandering
Down the Highway. Nick’s book, Meandering Down the Highway
is a compilation of this column from his and Terry’s first year on the
road.
In Meandering Down the Highway Nick
shares the adventures he and Miss Terry experienced in their first year on
the road, from shakedown trips to leaving it all behind. Nick writes in
such a way that you feel like you are his best friend as he tells of the
many good experiences and the few bad experiences they have had.
Nick talks about actual places, the wonders of the
sights they have seen and even tells you how he and Miss Terry were
treated. Before visiting an area, you will know from Nick and Terry’s
experiences what sights are worth seeing and which campgrounds will
welcome you with open arms. Chances are, after reading Meandering
Down the Highway you will make a few detours to visit some of the
places Nick writes about.
Nick tells of the wonderful friends they have made on
the road, sharing names of people you too may have met. I must admit I was
rather jealous when I read names of my friends who have had the pleasure
of meeting Nick and Terry, while I still await the day when our paths will
cross.
The RVing lifestyle does not come without some thorns
as Nick shares with their experience of “The Motorhome From Hell.” He
tells you enough to make you aware you never want to buy this
manufacturers product, without letting you loose sight of the dream that
brings RVers to the road.
As RVers we enjoy seeing new sights and having new
experiences. Meandering Down the Highway and the Gypsy
Journal are excellent resources for finding those fun and
unexpected sights.
Nick has also authored several other resource books
for the serious RVer. Work Your Way Across the USA: You Can Travel
and Earn A Living Too! shares many ways a person can make a living
while enjoying the RV lifestyle. He closes this book with a
thought-provoking look at ways to cut your budget, thereby reducing the
amount of money you need to make on the road.

Virtual Frontier by Megan Edwards.
What
would you do if a wild fire took your home and all that was left was
ashes? Well that is what happened to Megan Edwards, Mark Sedenquist and
Marvin. In Roads from the Ashes: An Odyssey in Real Life on the
Virtual Frontier Megan tells how they turned the loss of their
home into an opportunity and hit the road.
As a freelance writer and newspaper columnist Megan needed to be able
to turn her articles in from the road. What is easily done via e-mail and
cell phones today was a huge challenge back in 1993 when the Internet was
still in it's infancy. Megan shares her trials and tribulations with this
new means of communications from the road.
