Where are Jaimie and Alice?
Alice
Alice
took her inaugural trip with her Lazy Daze, "Parnassus on Wheels," named for an old book by
Christopher Morley that told the story of a bookseller who traveled
with his books.

Alice has been working her way up through California and is currently
in Oregon. This is a photo of Parnassus parked by the sea in Ventura.
Ventura, CA and Charles Chandler's slide-in camper
I had the pleasure of camping at Emma Woods State Beach north of
Ventura, California, at the beginning of my journey north. I was
enthralled with Charles Chandler's homemade slide-in camper and trailer
and wrote about it in RV Lifestyles. Here are some of the photos I took.

This is Charles' camper off the truck with a view of the side and
front.

This is his sleeping area- up front but in the wood area. (Notice the
windows.)

He has a built-in work station.

This must make quite a sight when traveling down the road on Charles'
truck!
August 2007 update
Oregon

My
journey continues. Last month you saw Parnassus parked on the beach north
of Ventura, CA. I spent a little time in the Gold Rush Country and then
scooted up to Oregon. After a weekend in Grants Pass playing bridge, I
went up a very narrow, winding road to visit friends who were Workamping
amid the tall trees in the mountains above Ashland. Parnassus was dwarfed
by the trees at the Hyatt Lake campground.
Then
back to the great valley to the Escapees’ Park at Sutherlin to work like
a maniac on an editing project.

On
to the Oregon coast, stopped for lunch by one of the many free waysides. I
appreciate Oregon's respect for its citizens. Much of the beautiful
coastline is public lands, either national forest or state parks.

Up
to the mighty Columbia River. Spent some time doing music with an old
friend who lives near the river. One of his favorite songs is Woody
Guthrie's "Roll On Columbia, Roll On."

RV Authors' Co-op at the Rally
Went
to Redmond for the Rally and had a great time. Adrienne Kristine, Carol
White and I (all RVAC authors) led very successful seminars. People kept
coming by the booth to thank us. Unfortunately my refrigerator decided to
lie down and die. Good news is that Dometic was at the Rally and responded
immediately. Bad news is that they recommended I get a new one. Aaargh.
But the other good news was that I learned about an independent service
person in the Dalles who likes to “repair and not replace.” Bad news
is that he said “Replace!” Here’s Parnassus at the shop in the
Dalles.

Back
to more visiting and bridge. Then to Albany, OR, for a one-week session of
jury duty, which was served in four hours waiting to get selected for the
one jury trial that week that was later settled. Back to the coast to head
south. Here’s Parnassus at Seal Rocks.

More visits and
sightseeing and stayed for free at the Casino just north of Coos Bay
(courtesy of Jane Kenny’s great guide, Casino Camping).
Back to California

This
weekend parked in the driveway of my son and daughter-in-law’s place in
Emeryville, CA, between Berkeley and Oakland to visit with
grandchildren: two darling little girls from Austin, Texas...

and
one beautiful teenager from southern California.
A
rich month since I left Ventura....
